Dont ever buy a chcken if ur team already has one. instead ask for control and upgrade it to a crow.

use your pointer finger on your left hand to hold down the ALT key 90% of the time to keep tabs on enemy creeps/heroes/and buildings HP
(this works for all games but its a helpful habit i developed in dota)

or just go to options and turn health bars on

support buys chick
support buys wards if you dont know where to place wards
http://www.playdota.com/guides/heldarions-total-warding
support lets carries cs and let carry get hero kill
dont go to your lane without consumables if you have a problem doing this then just always get a set of tangoes first before you buy anything else

if you buy chick or wards just get 3 gg branches healing salve mana pot and tango
for most other heros get either 2 cirlet 2 gg branch 1 tango or 1 circlet 4 gg branch 2 tango

middle is the typical lane that solos but not always.

also learn to build your hero. if there is any hero that your unsure how to build ask me

always carry tp scrolls so you dont have to qq every time you get ganked, and so you can go save someone in another lane who is always riding your coat tails!

Chainstun. If someone stuns an enemy, wait until that stun has worn off before you stun again this way the total amount of time he is stunned is elongated. Stun times do not stack. stunning while he is already stunned would only be for specific reasons like stopping a pudge's rot in a critical situaion, or a lunas ult, just to kill faster using the dmg from the stun or to stun someone who had linkens. Or to KS but then you're probably being a bitch. This is the dotA equivalent of wearing two condoms.

Don't get more than one type of orb or buff placer. some heroes have abilities which are orbs (magina, ursa, etc..) keep that in mind. This is the dotA equivalent of voting for obama when you live in california.

Dont think only about going for kills. For example, an enemy hero is at 20 hp attacking one of your heroes who is at 250hp. In the middle of this a full hp enemy hero is incoming to the battle. You have a stun. You could use the stun to kill the 20hp hero and GET THE GOLD/KS then the incoming enemy might kill you both, or you could be a pro and let your buddy kill the 20hp hero with auto attack while you stun the incoming one and then both of you can kill him because you didn't waste a stun. Doing this wrong is the dotA equivalent of hunting squirrels and getting eaten by a bear.

Don't start channeling before you have used your abilities the best you can. Same things with items. Atropos is a great example. he has enfeeble, sleep, sap, and grip. (If you have the mana, and there are multiple enemy heroes) be sure to enfeeble one, sleep one, sap one, and then drain one. This way you have disabled 3 enemy heroes before you start channeling your ult, rather than just running in and ulting the weakest hero while the two other heroes you didn't disable kill you while you channel. Doing this wrong is the dotA equivalent of premature ejaculation.

Don't block your friends. if your buddy is low hp and in danger of dying or trying to catch someone and you are in between him and where he is going, walk at an angle where you will not block him. If an enemy which you cannot stop is trying to kill your friend you can walk in front of him to slow him down. This is the dotA equivalent of driving 40mph in the fast lane.

Don't try to last hit when you fail miserably at it and there is someone much better at it as your lane partner. If you keep hitting too early, or auto attacking on and off arbitrarily it will make it very hard for your lane partner to last hit. If the people in the other lane are much better than you at last hitting and you are ranged, just harass them whenever they get close. Doing this wrong is the dotA equivalent of Tourettes syndrome.

Don't auto-attack the creeps in your lane nonstop in most situations. You will end up carelessly pushing far into their lane without actually getting much last-hit gold, making you more susceptible to ganking. Also, your predictable damage output will make it very easy for the other team to last hit. This is the dotA equivalent of Downs syndrome.

Don't just choose ub3r l33t imbA OP carry hero agi blinker every game you want to win. Look at what your team is choosing and get something that helps fill a role you do not have. This is the dotA equivalent of throwing scissors every time.
